Kamali Hill is the Founder and Artistic Director of The Creative Space, the premier institution for the continued development of professional dance artists in Washington, D.C. She built TCS on the belief that the field is only as strong as the infrastructure we build for the artists inside it. She knew that because she had been that artist.

Her career began as a company member with Dissonance Dance Theater II under Artistic Director Shawn Short, who invited her to present her first original work. That moment made clear that her voice as a choreographer would carry further than her career as a performer. That voice was formed through the process of learning what it takes to be a choreographer.

Her work made its way to Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Dance Canvas, Athens Dance Video Project, the Modern Atlanta Dance Festival, the Denton Black Film Festival, and the Center for Civil and Human Rights. While pursuing her studies at Texas Woman's University, Kamali spearheaded policy change that redefined how the department recognized and supported its graduate students as professionals. At the University of Southern Mississippi, she served as a professor and expanded the institution's presence in the dance community, building connections that broadened its reach beyond campus.

Her teaching has reached Baltimore School for the Arts, Coppin State University, Bowie State University, the International Association of Blacks in Dance, and the American College Dance Association, among others.

Kamali holds an MFA in Dance from Texas Woman's University and a BFA in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University.

The work was always leading here. Every experience, every stage, every classroom. She took what she learned, and built The Creative Space to give back to the field.
